It is a question many people ask. Most people are likely becoming more and more aware of the risks associated with sedentary work while desiring to live a more physically active life. However, how much movement is needed during your everyday life, and how does it become part of your routines?
Even if you spend most of your time in front of the computer, you can still get some movements and active minutes into your workday. It takes determination and persistence, but it is absolutely achievable.
Get all the help you can - the more, the better
It is not easy to change your habits, why it is always a good idea to accept all the help you can get if you want to reach your goal. At Contour Design, we know that movement and variation are essential elements in ensuring a good, healthy working day. Therefore, we emphasize that our products should help make movement and variation a natural part of everyday life in front of the computer. Our products are ergonomically designed to do just that. But while our products can take you a long way, it is still imperative that you actively change your habits if you want to integrate more physical movement in your workday.
How do you change your habits?
Habits are tricky. Even those you know will do you good. Therefore, we recommend that you try to associate new good habits with already existing practices.
Here are some examples of things you could do:
- Do you always start your workday with a glass of water or a cup of coffee? Then, get it from the water container or coffee machine the furthest away from you. While you are at it, choose a small glass or cup so that you are forced to get up more frequently.
- If you work in a multi-storey building, you may want to start taking the stairs over the elevator.
- If you drive to work, you could park a bit further away from the entrance than usual – that will also provide you with a bit more movement.
